Course Description

ACCT 615 Management Accounting and Control prepares students for future roles as corporate controllers and explores the control process from the management accounting perspective. In this course, students learn how to manage all major aspects of the controller’s job, including strategic and annual planning, financial reporting, and managing all aspects of the accounting department. This course also examines peripheral issues pertinent to management accounting and control, including, control systems, the fast close, filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission cost reduction analysis, and software selection and implementation. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the control process from the perspective of management accounting.
  • Learn the corporate controller’s roles and functions including strategic and annual planning, financial reporting, and managing all aspects of the accounting department.
  • Learn recent developments in target costing, activity-based costing, and throughput analysis, to inform managerial decision-making.
  • Learn and discuss regulatory and legislative compliance issues that controllers often encounter, and how to address them.
