Course Description

CSA 938 Doctoral Seminar in Research Methods is designed for doctoral students seeking to
enhance their research competencies from methods courses. Through this course, the students accomplish their dissertation proposal writing, requiring them to be competent in research methods and designs. Thus, they make judgments about matching the appropriate research method and design to their chosen research problems. The course is divided into two parts. In the first part, students learn more about methodologies in relation to other pertinent chapters of the dissertation proposal, and in the second part, they are required to complete that dissertation proposal.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop proficiency in selecting the appropriate methodology for their dissertation
    proposal and future dissertation.
  • Understand the nature of developing and/or testing theory and the use of theory in
    improving research.
  • Deep knowledge about specific procedures or techniques in data collection within a
    given set of methods or in a specific context of inquiry.
  • Complete a dissertation proposal.
