Course Description

DHS 705 Occupational and Environmental Diseases and Injuries is an advanced course on how health professionals can recognize and prevent occupational and environmental disease and injury at individual and population levels. Through this course, students learn the relationships between occupational health and environmental health: occupational health hazards may impact communities, while environmental health problems frequently originate in workplaces. Students also explore the interrelationships between work-related hazards, environmental degradation, poverty, and social injustice. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand how health professionals can recognize and prevent occupational and environmental disease and injury at individual and population levels.
  • Understand how occupational and environmental health issues profoundly impact every person’s health and well-being, as well as the associated contexts and issues with that impact.
  • Recognize, assess, and prevent occupational and environmental disease and injury in a changing world.
  • Learn about governmental and non-governmental organizations the public can contact to obtain additional information and resources on specific occupational and environmental health concerns.
