Course Description

DNP 790 Infectious Disease Management in Nursing Practice examines the principles of how infections and infectious diseases become established and subsequently managed for effective infection prevention and control. In this course, students learn about the sequence of events that allow the appropriate control measures to be implemented to disrupt or ‘break’ the chain. Students also learn about potential interventions primarily aimed at controlling or eliminating the agent at source, protecting portals of entry, and increasing the host’s defenses.

  • Understand the principles of infection control and prevention used in nursing practice.
  • Critically analyze the difficulties of clinical staff in adhering to infection prevention principles, with many other competing priorities.
  • Learn the relevant policies pertinent to infection control and prevention.
