Course Description

DPSY 804 Graduate Teaching Seminar examines the theoretical foundations and practical skills needed to effectively teach psychology at the college level through an online classroom. Throughout this course, students learn to transition the teaching of psychology courses to the online classroom and use online materials to support instruction. Students also learn to harness the advantages of teaching psychology online. In this course, students investigate topics such as course preparation, strategies to facilitate learning, multimedia tools to support teaching and learning, online activities that encourage higher-order thinking through discourse, online assessment and learning outcomes in psychology, and advanced applications and future directions in online psychology teaching. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the theoretical foundations and practical skills needed to teach college psychology through an online classroom effectively.
  • Learn to transition the teaching of psychology courses to the online classroom and use online materials to support teaching.
  • Learn and analyze evidence-based methods and techniques in teaching psychology, from course preparation to assessment.
  • Research and analyze advanced applications and future directions in online psychology teaching.
