DPSY 824 Critical Social Psychology provides an exhaustive overview of various debates within social psychology by leading scholars in their research fields who have brought a critical perspective to theoretical and methodological approaches used today. Through this course, students learn key concepts in critical psychology to equip them with the knowledge and understanding that would allow them to think critically about mainstream psychological concepts. Emphasis is given to the application of critical ideas to modern psychological and socio-political issues. These critical ideas are derived from different areas, including feminist theory, Marxism, social constructionism, queer theory, and critical race studies in psychology. Other topics covered in this course are critical methodologies, rethinking of social cognition, and social identities (Formerly DPSY 824 Applied Social Psychology).
