DPSY 840 Diversity Issues in Psychology brings together theories, research findings, and scholarly discourse exploring diversity’s psychological implications and associated issues. Through this course, students learn advanced analyses and discussions of theory and research that directly address policymaking and interventions pertinent to diversity issues. Moreover, students analyze the unprecedented degree of cultural, religious, and ideological diversity within and between nation-states, reflecting a unique challenge of the 21st century. In this course, students examine how people thrive amidst diversity without the costs of conflict or alienation, requiring new social identities, new ways of thinking about differences, and new psychological adaptations to embrace the complexities. Topics covered in this course are organized into six categories of diversity: social identity culture, intergroup attitudes, intergroup relations, group processes, and interventions.
