Course Description

DPSY 950 Industrial and Organizational Psychology comprehensively examines the research, theory, and applications comprising the field of industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology. Through this course, students explore different topics in human resource management and organizational behavior from the psychology perspective. Students also learn a full range of organizational topics, including leadership, power, role theory, groups in organizations, conflict, and communication, as well as the traditional industrial topics of job analysis, selection, performance appraisal, staffing, and training. This course also explores issues in I/O, including ethical dilemmas, historical and philosophical contexts of I/O, and training and development. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the research, theories, and applications that comprise I/O psychology.
  • Learn and discuss methodologies and principles to understand human behavior in the workplace.
  • Infer appropriate conclusions from I/O psychology research.
  • Synthesize evidence to critically assess the outcomes of organizational practices and employee behavior on organizations, employees, and others.
