Course Description

EPI 550 Clinical Epidemiology explores the application of epidemiologic principles to the management of individual patients. In particular, students learn how evidence-based medicine is achieved through the application of population-based evidence to individual patient care.
Moreover, through this course, students develop basic and intermediate skills for critically evaluating evidence from clinical studies to support evidence-informed healthcare decision-making. Students also learn about the design of epidemiological studies and the analysis and interpretation of epidemiological data to support clinical reasoning.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn to apply epidemiologic principles to the management of individual patients.
  • Understand how to achieve evidence-based medicine by applying population-based evidence to individual patient care.
  • Critically evaluate evidence from clinical studies to support evidence-informed decision-making in health care.
  • Answer clinical questions through the use of epidemiological data.
