EPI 551 Environmental Epidemiology explores environmental epidemiology, primarily the
effects of physical, biological, and chemical factors in the external environment on human
health. Students learn about the methodological issues in environmental epidemiology,
particularly the health effects of air, water, and land pollution and the health effects of radiation.
This course teaches students to critically assess and interpret scientific data on potential
environmental hazards to health and describe the principles of geographical and time-series
studies for investigating the health effects of environmental exposures. This course also covers
evidence about global climate change and the methods for evaluating its potential health impacts.
