GBH 551 Global Health Governance and Policy focuses on global health institutions and the
policies that might help governments develop them if they do not yet exist and reform them if
they are ineffective. This course covers the most pressing global health problems, policy issues,
the solutions to those issues, and the implementation of governance structures and practices
within complex settings. As such, students learn about leading global health concerns and
understand that these problems might be fixed at the international, national, and local levels.
Emphasis is on global health policies that either shape or bypass existing institutions.
