HCA 526 Health Economics examines economic theories, principles, and techniques used in public health. In this course, students learn the principles that distinguish demand for health care from demand for other goods and services. This course provides insight into economic methods to promote public health policies, analyze healthcare delivery, and shape health sector reforms. Through this course, students learn to use information on the economic evaluation of healthcare interventions and better understand the strategic debates on using market elements to improve health service performance. Students also learn the financial strategies to promote public health, the gaps between theoretical concepts and political implementation, and other issues in health economics and how these issues are addressed.
