Course Description

MATESOL 603 explores the theoretical foundations and methods of linguistics. The course introduces students to the types of questions posed by linguists, the theoretical underpinnings of their answers, and fundamental concepts in core linguistic areas: syntax, phonetics, phonology, lexis, morphology, variation, discourse, stylistics, and usage. The focus is on teaching English linguistics, combining descriptive and theoretical perspectives with a methodological outlook based on contemporary linguistic practices.
