Course Description

MATESOL 607 is a seminar course that delves into the exploration of research methods in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This course covers quantitative, qualitative, and experimental research methods, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of various theoretical frameworks employed in language teaching and learning research. The curriculum includes instruction on collecting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods data with second language learners (SLLs), methodologies for analyzing and interpreting data, and drawing conclusions from data analysis. Additionally, students learn how to conduct literature reviews and critically assess scientific studies in TESOL. The course culminates with the development of a research proposal for an individualized study, which serves as the foundation for the subsequent MATESOL 608 Seminar in TESOL Research and Pedagogy.
