Course Description

MBA 538 Strategic Management Accounting focuses on how management accounting and control systems and processes work to support organizational strategies. Students learn about the various uses of financial and non-financial information to plan and control decisions. Particular emphasis is given to the strategic value of management accounting and applying management accounting principles and concepts to business strategy. Topics in this course are organized into five themes: management accounting in relation to empirical studies on management accounting, cost and value, and managing customers, competitors, and corporate value. Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the roles of management accounting in informing strategic decision-making.
  • Critically analyze management accounting relative to strategy formulation, communication, implementation, and control within a business.
  • Understand how to incorporate management accounting techniques into a strategic management accounting approach to business challenges.
  • Learn to solve practical and applied problems through case study analysis.
