Course Description

MIR 503 International Conflict Analysis and Resolution examines international conflict
resolution methods and theories emphasizing peaceful societies. Students learn how these
societies resolve the same kinds of problems that confront people everywhere yet manage their
conflicts without resorting to violent behavior. This course explores the forms of conflict
resolution and socialization that promote peaceful interaction, beliefs that favor nonviolence over
aggression, and attitudes and perceptions about violence that prevent its establishment as a social
norm. (Formerly MIR 503 International Conflicts Management)

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn and discuss how peaceful societies resolve and manage conflicts
    nonviolently.
  • Develop analytical skills applicable to business, government, or third-sector organizations to examine international conflicts and their resolution.
  • Make an informed assessment of the dynamics and future of conflict management
    approaches geared toward international peace.
  • Critically assess strategies for conflict resolutions applicable in different situations
    and societies.
