Course Description

This course provides graduate students with an overview of the role of biostatistics in advancing public health activities and improving public health. Biostatistical and data management concepts will be presented with an emphasis on statistical applications in a real-world setting. Students enrolling in this course must download the R Statistical Package, a freely distributed software package for statistical analysis and graphics. Prerequisite: Download the R Statistical Package 

Learning Outcomes:

  • To understand public health concerns, proficiently analyze health-related data, including population and research data.

  • Develop skills in interpreting summary tables and graphs published in public health manuscripts and reports.

  • Utilize the appropriate biostatistical methods and appropriate statistical techniques to test hypotheses pertinent to public health.

  • Develop technical skills for viewing, summarizing, and analyzing data using R output.
