Course Description

MPH 509 Individual Capstone Project focuses on the practical application of public health
foundational and concentration competencies in a project. This course requires an individual
major research paper or thesis (Capstone Project), through which the student demonstrates
learning and skills developed during their Master of Public Health (MPH) program. Students are
provided a Capstone Manual with explicit guidance for the Capstone Project. This course may
not be taken until all other core MPH courses are completed and the student has garnered a 3.0
GPA.

  • Complete an individual Capstone Project.
  • Demonstrate learning and skills developed throughout their Master’s program.
  • Harness research methods and independent study skills that enable in-depth learning and analysis of self-selected topics within the area of study.
  • Develop critical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills to complete a scholarly document.
