M.Phil 555 Metaphysics delves into philosophical questions about what exists and what existing things are like in their fundamental features and interrelationships. In this course, students learn about metaphysics, its methods, and its historical development over time, emphasizing the scholarship of prominent philosophers. Topics covered in this course include truth and the grounds of truth, causation and powers, properties, particulars, composition, the passage of time, continuity and persistence, and select applications of metaphysical analyses.
