Course Description

M.Phil 571 History of Western Philosophy explores the rise of modern Western philosophy. In particular, this course examines the fundamental questions of what exists and how we can know about it, the nature of humanity, truth, and meaning, the place of God in the universe, how we should live, and how society should be ordered. This course traces the development of these themes through the discourse of great thinkers at the time when modern Western philosophers were emerging.
