Course Description

PhDTh 811 Theology of Catholic Marriage explores the sanctity and permanence of marriage as well as the Catholic ministry for love and compassion of Christ to those traumatized by the experience of marital breakdown. In this course, students learn about the theology of the bond of marriage and its limitations that constrain Catholic Church officials’ solutions to granting annulments. Topics covered in this course include Catholics adjusting to marital breakdown, the theological history of matrimony, pastoral options, opinions of the clergy, irregular marriage situations, and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
