Course Description

PhDTh 817 Jewish Theology examines how biblical theology and the Jews approximate each other, emphasizing a Jewish biblical theology. In this course, students learn about Jewish Bible theology as a subdiscipline of biblical studies, independent from Christian theology, and explore the Bible/Old Testament and its various themes from a Jewish theological perspective(s). 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn and discuss Jewish biblical theology as a subdiscipline of biblical studies, independent from Christian theology.
  • Explore the Bible/Old Testament and its various themes from a Jewish theological perspective(s).
  • Critically analyze methodological and historical issues in Jewish biblical theology, including in relation to the Torah, Prophets, and Writings (Tanak).
  • Understand fresh and current thoughts on important issues in Jewish religious and intellectual world views.
