Name: Hindu-Christian Theology
Course Number: PhDTh 872
Credit(s): 4

Course Description

PhDTh 872 Hindu-Christian Theology explores how constructions of Hinduism and Christianity have emerged in the interactions between them from the theology perspective. In this course, students learn how the encounters between two groups highlight what might remain unremarkable in other contexts. Moreover, students also learn how the force of attraction, particularly curiosity, mutual interest, and even love, also draws Hindus and Christians to develop mutual understanding in one another’s company.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop advanced knowledge of the historical outlines of Christianity and Hinduism within their social context.
  • Understand how constructions of Hinduism and Christianity have emerged in the interactions between them from the theology perspective.
  • Understand the theological underpinnings of Hindu-Christian relations.
  • Discuss different approaches to fundamental theological questions emerging from encounters with Hindu religiosity, including divine reality, human flourishing, and the importance of Jesus Christ.
