Guidelines for Internship Selection & Approval

  1. Overview: This course is essential for LPC/LMFT licensure, comprising a 500-hour supervised internship. Additional hours, if needed, are arranged individually. Students sign agreements with the University and licensed professionals (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Psychologist, or Psychoanalyst).
  2. Organized Sequence: The internship follows an organized, sequential series, increasing in complexity and aligning with academic coursework. A written plan outlines goals, objectives, evaluation methods, and compliance with jurisdictional regulations.
  3. Breadth and Depth: Internship experiences extend academic coursework, ensuring services align with education received. A written plan ensures quality, breadth, and depth, specifying goals, evaluation methods, and adherence to supervisory regulations.
  4. Hour Requirement: Internship requires a minimum of 500 supervised hours, with at least 50% in service-related activities and 25% in face-to-face client contact. Supervision includes individual and group settings.
  5. Supervision: Supervision is crucial, comprising no less than 25% of service-related activity time. Supervisors must be licensed, and up to 25% of supervision may be provided by qualified professionals.
  6. Training Sequence: Multiple part-time practicum placements can combine to meet the 1500-hour practicum experience required by licensing boards.
  7.
