Course Description

PSYA 801 Jungian Analytical Psychology explores the field of analytical psychology of which Carl Gustav Jung was the founder and pioneer. Through this course, students learn why and how analytical psychology revolutionized the approach to mental illness and the study of the mind. This course covers Jung’s most essential works on the nature of the psyche, archetypes, religion and culture, and therapy and healing. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand Jung’s major contributions to psychoanalysis.
  • Learn and discuss the postulates of analytical psychology, including its radical concepts.
  • Understand Jung’s theory of archetypes as the structural core of Jungian psychology.
  • Critically analyse Jung’s approach to psychotherapy and how it differs from Freudian and Adlerian approaches.
